Instructions for Operation and Care of
MODEL K45 KITCHENAID MIXER
MOTOR:
The K45 Mixer is equipped with a built-in motor for operation on alternating
current of the VOLTAGE SPECIFIED ON THE BOWL SCREW CAP. It should not be
used on current varying more than 10% from this specified voltage.
In normal service, the temperature of the motor will rise, especially if mixer
is operated for some time. However, this is a perfectly normal condition, and
will not harm the mixer.
BRUSHES:
Access to the brushes may be had by unscrewing the synthetic caps (2) on each
side of the mixer. Brushes should be replaced when worn to the point where
the length of the square section has been reduced to 1/8 of an inch.
LUBRICATION:
Motor bearings are self-lubricating and should require no further attention
under normal use as a household appliance.
SWITCH CONTROL:
The switch control lever (1) is mounted on the left side of the mixer when
facing the attachment hub end. By moving the switch control lever forward,
the switch is turned on and the desired speed may be selected. No. 10 is
the highest speed. To stop the motor, mearly push the switch control lever
to "OFF".
AGITATOR SHAFT:
The agitator shaft projects below the transmission case and is fitted with
a spring and drive stud to engage the L-shaped slot of the agitator. The
chromium plated drip ring is designed to catch any grease or oil that might
work out of the transmission case. Remove the drip ring occasionally and
wipe out any accumulated oil or moisture.
TO REMOVE BOWL:
The bowl may be removed from the base of the mixer by turning it about one-half
revolution counter-clockwise. This unscrews it from the bowl screw cap which
is held to the pedestal base of the mixer. Before removing the bowl, it is
necessary to have the agitator removed from agitator shaft or to tip back
the attachment (3) end of the mixer head. The mixer head is locked in the
mixing position by the locking lever (5) on the right hand side of the mixer.
To unlock the mixing head from the mixing position move the locking lever
backward from the attachment hub (3) end of the mixer. The mixing head may
then be tipped back for removing.
